Hi there! I'm Rylan Vanderhorst, and I am thrilled to be a part of the Lotus Rising Team. After receiving my B.A. in Psychology at California State University San Marcos, I went to Point Loma Nazarene University, where I recently completed my M.A. in Clinical Counseling. I am now an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT).
My professional journey includes diverse experiences, including working as a Marriage and Family Therapist trainee at Alvarado Parkway Institute, an inpatient psychiatric hospital. This experience taught me invaluable lessons in safety planning, crisis intervention, and the impact of mental health on individuals and families. As a therapist, I have worked with those who have experienced trauma, anxiety, and depression, as well as those who are in need of support and building skills around communication and managing emotions. I believe in creating a safe and supportive space where you can freely express yourself and explore your inner world. Together, we will work to transform unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, fostering positive change and empowering you to discover your inner strength.
A little bit more about me: I chose to become a Marriage and Family Therapist because my parents, a nurse and a firefighter, inspired my dedication to empathy, compassion, and selfless service, shaping my commitment to helping others. I grew up in Carlsbad and am passionate about giving back to the community and supporting those who contribute to making Carlsbad so wonderful!
When I'm not working, you can find me reading, traveling, enjoying the beach, walking my dog Opal, or spending quality time with friends and family. I am here to support you, empower you, and help you navigate the challenges you're facing while making meaningful and lasting changes.
